Community Support Program- Youth
The Community Support Program, established in 2013, is dedicated to assisting youth ages 11-17 on probation who are at risk of entering detention or custody. The program is supported by two full-time community workers who provide direct, on-the-ground support to these individuals. Referrals to the program are made through Youth Probation, with funding provided by the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services (MCCSS).

The Community Support Program operates as part of a youth-centered delivery system that provides rehabilitative and reintegration programs for youth in conflict with the law. The program is guided by cognitive-behavioral principles, evidence-informed practices, and consultation with experts. It integrates seamlessly with other services offered to youth by government and community organizations. The program is reflective of and responsive to the strengths and needs of youth, their families, and their communities, while remaining sensitive to their social, linguistic, and cultural diversity.
Staffed by professionals with the skills and expertise required to address the unique needs of youth and families, the program delivers support tailored to the youth’s assessed needs, preferences, and available resources. It is aligned with the Youth Justice Service Division’s four key outcomes: improving youth functioning and positive social behavior, enhancing skills and abilities, increasing engagement with supports, and reducing reoffending. The program is accountable to the youth, their families, and the community, fostering trust and collaboration throughout the rehabilitation and reintegration process.
